You had a rubbish day at work, you fell ill, you have a big presentation coming up. Whatever’s going on, you’re feeling stressed.

And you’re not alone. A UK-wide study by the Mental Health Foundation showed that almost three-quarters of adults have, at some point over 2017, felt so stressed that they were overwhelmed or unable to cope1.

So where can you go to get away from the stressors of life? Well, as they say, there’s no place like home.

However, if you find that you don’t feel relaxed even in your own abode, then it’s time to consider taking steps to create a stress free home.

4 ways to a stress free home

1. Beautify your home

An improvement in aesthetic quality can have positive effects on your mind. On average, we spend about 90 percent of our time indoors. Therefore, having an aesthetically pleasing home can play a big part in enhancing your life.

By picking a unique combination of colourful fabrics and chic furniture that speaks to you, you can introduce diversity to your home while allowing your individuality to shine. This can reduce stress levels and boost your mood, keeping you mentally healthy2.

2. Maximise natural light

Enjoying more natural light can be beneficial to your wellbeing.

A great way to bring out the beauty of your fabrics and furniture is to introduce more natural light into your home. To achieve this, you can make use of light reflecting panels to multiply the amount of light streaming in.

Not only will your home feel brighter and more spacious, but you’ll receive a boost to your mood and health as well! Studies have shown that receiving more natural light during the day has been proven to result in an extra 46 minutes of sleep at night3. This is critical to enhancing our overall wellbeing, as poor sleep has been linked to various health problems.

3. Improve temperature regulation

Achieving an ideal indoor climate can help you avoid various health problems. Studies show that indoor temperature regulation through a well-insulated home has an impact on sleep quality3

  • A room that is too warm can cause restless nights and even insomnia4.
  • A room that is too cold, on the other hand, can make your muscles contract to stay warm, preventing you from relaxing and falling into a deep sleep.

Overall, optimal indoor temperature regulation helps you feel comfortable at home, regardless of the weather outside.

Limiting temperature fluctuations also allows you to have comfortable levels of humidity indoors. This gives you the feeling of a healthier and more pleasant indoor environment.

4. Improve noise insulation

Findings have shown that noise pollution can contribute to stress. Proper insulation not only helps regulate temperature but also help keep out unwanted noise.
