Electrical Controls and Automation Technician
Pencoed, Bridgend
£39,000 - Days (Monday - Friday)
Job Purpose & Scope:
To maintain, repair, install and modify electrical equipment. Additionally, to optimise electrical equipment to perform to its maximum capacity and efficiencies. To ensure that all electrical equipment within the job holder’s area of responsibility performs to targeted levels of reliability. To analyse and resolve both hardware and software issues to effect permanent solutions.
This position is offering full-time, permanent employment and you will be required to work Days Monday to Friday.

The main result areas for an Electrical Controls and Automation Technician are:
- Health and safety
- Resolve any recurring electrical problems with a view to maximizing equipment availability time and efficiency
- Decreasing of MAI cost
- Development of preventive/predictive services, by reducing corrective maintenance
Key Responsibilities & Job Content:
- Responsible for carrying out the maintenance, repair, modification and installation of electrical equipment. Ensuring that electrical equipment within the job holder’s area of responsibility performs to targeted levels of reliability.
- To be able to evaluate and modify group and company standard electrical and process drawings and implement improvements on electrical, mechanical and process issues
- To be able to work and program on group and company standard operator interfaces including construction of dynamic pictures preferably using WinCC
- To be able to fault find and design programs using Siemens programming equipment on both S5, S7 and TIA and see a job through the commissioning stage without support
- To be able to understand Servo systems and positioning systems as well as demonstrate know how and basic programming of various Servo Systems we have on site, whilst being fully conversant with principles of closed loop control and analogue loops
- Uses the SAP plant maintenance system to deliver the agreed planned maintenance programme for the plant and reads the shift logbooks and carries out corrective maintenance actions as required
- Works shifts when required either on a temporary or permanent basis.
- Carry out all responsibilities using the Rockwool values as the basis for your day to day actions.
- Support all company policies, ensuring full compliance with the procedures that accompany these.
- Health and safety are a priority and ROCKSHE reports must be dealt with efficiently. Risk assessments must be completed, and permit systems must be adhered. Promote a strong health and safety culture so that inappropriate risk taking is eliminated and all employees participate in systematic, efficient and safe working practices.
- Analyse equipment failures and provide solutions to eliminate or extend the time between failures.
This is what you offer:
- HNC, HND in Electrical Engineering discipline.
- 3-5 years previous experience in Electrical maintenance engineering
- Siemens PLC knowledge up to TIA (Siemens TIA, S7 and S5 PLC)
- SCADA Packages and instrumental control
- Knowledge of Servo Drives including Lenze & Siemens ABB, Danfoss and Siemens Inverters
- Safety systems and equipment including Pilz and Siemens.
- Written and spoken English Language to a high professional business level
- Highly organised with the ability to manage several works streams with conflicting priorities.
- Able to make decisions on technical issues without the need for technical support
- Able to troubleshoot defects in electrical and process systems
- Excellent analytical problem-solving skills.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of SAP MM, PM
- Provides direction & guidance to a team in a way that leads to optimal results
- Plans & organises their own work effectively
- Coaching skills
