Challenged to achieve something extraordinary

As a member of our team, you will be challenged in your everyday work and participate in interesting projects to evolve new technologies and products for ROCKWOOL. Your work will contribute to innovations that will take our business forward and enable us to stay leaders in our industry. In our creative and dynamic work environment, you will be empowered to engage with credible partners and be at the very forefront of our industry.

Industrial Postdoc to investigate environmental effects of novel binder for mineral wool.

Do you enjoy using GC-MS and LC-MS analysis as puzzle pieces when researching biobased materials? And would you like to use your knowledge to support our journey towards more sustainable products? Then you could be our Postdoc for the next 3 years.

This is who we are
At our HQ in Hedehusene, you will become part of our Group Research and Development department. Here, you will be stepping into a vibrant project organisation, where you will work closely with other chemists and specialists from Group R&D.

The research will be done together with Aarhus University, so you should expect to work close to 50% of your time in the analytical chemistry research group of Associate Professor Marianne Glasius at the university in Aarhus.

This is the role
A novel green and largely biobased lignin binder for mineral wool products is currently under development in our Group R&D. Further understanding of this binder’s emission profile is needed and will be investigated in collaboration with experts from Aarhus University. The respective candidate is expected to develop analytical methods and use them to characterize emissions from the manufacturing process as well as to characterize degradation products when mineral wool is used in different types of applications.

The project is centered around development and optimization of new GC-MS and HPLC-MS methods. However, an important part will be standardizing sample preparation, ensuring appropriate sample collection and potential derivatization to facilitate the analysis.
We aim at a starting date 1st April 2022.

This is what you offer
To apply for this position, you need to fulfil these formal requirements for an Industrial Postdoc:

  • You finished your PhD no longer than 4,5 years ago
  • You have not worked in a private company longer than 6 months after your PhD

Your curiosity ensures that you are always seeking and using new knowledge, and as a true team player, you share your knowledge eagerly with peers and colleagues alike. Also, you are known for your initiative as well as your ability to plan and organise your work efficiently.

Moreover you:

  • Bring a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical engineering or similar field
  • Have proven knowledge of chromatographic techniques, advanced mass spectrometry and associated software
  • Are well versed in the analytical methods for measurements of emission profile such as thermal desorption
  • Have experience with sample extraction, preparation and purification
  • Preferably have some knowledge about lignin chemistry
  • Are capable and willing to work at the interplay of university research, industrial research and production setting
  • Bring solid communications skills, both written and oral

This is what we offer
Both the laboratories at ROCKWOOL and the university partner are equipped with the latest technology, so you will have the optimal set-up to do your work and help us reach our green objectives. In addition, you will get to further expand your knowledge during your research at the intersection of industry and university.
