Join ROCKWOOL as Our Historian: Unearth the Past, Shape the Future

Are you a historian with an inquisitive mind, a passion for cultural heritage, and a fascination with how industrial progress intertwines with human stories? Do you believe that a company’s past isn’t just dusty records and old machines—but a living, breathing narrative waiting to be told, celebrated, and used to shape identity and innovation?

At ROCKWOOL, we’re on a mission to preserve, interpret, and activate our rich history. Not as a footnote, but as a foundation for our present and future. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced historian to lead this initiative: someone who will delve deeply into our archives, bring our legacy to life, and help us create a world-class historical experience centre.

We invite you to join us in this exciting endeavour—where past meets progress.

Who we are

Founded in Denmark in 1937, the ROCKWOOL Group has grown into the world’s leading provider of stone wool solutions. Our products are found in homes, hospitals, skyscrapers, data centres, and greenhouses across more than 40 countries. However, while we are driven by innovation and sustainability, we never lose sight of our roots.

Our story is deeply linked with themes of entrepreneurship, craftsmanship, resilience, and scientific curiosity. Preserving and sharing that story—through documents, objects, interviews, and immersive exhibitions—is now a strategic focus. And that’s where you come in.

What you’ll be doing

You will take the lead in building a historical archive that is both insightful and inspiring. This includes shaping both process and content—establishing systems, collecting and preserving material, conducting oral history interviews, and curating stories that can be shared internally and externally.

You will also contribute to the creation of a new Experience Centre, envisioned as a vibrant and welcoming space that brings our company’s values, history, and innovations to life.

In concrete terms, you will:

  • Build and manage a comprehensive archive of historical records, artefacts, photographs, and personal testimonies
  • Identify and collect key historical materials across business units and functions, in close collaboration with colleagues across the organisation
  • Conduct interviews with founding family members, past and present employees, and key figures in the company’s development
  • Develop narratives and exhibitions for an internal and external audience—blending academic accuracy with engaging storytelling
  • Contribute to workshops, talks, and internal campaigns that embed historical awareness across the company
  • Work closely with architects, curators, communications experts, and business leaders on the Experience Centre project
  • Ensure digital preservation and accessibility of records, in line with best practice in archival science

What you bring

You are more than a historian. You are a connector of people and stories. A trusted custodian of memory. A narrator of corporate heritage who knows how to engage both hearts and minds.

You also bring:

  • A master’s degree (or PhD) in History, Archival Science, Cultural Heritage Studies, or a closely related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with archival management, historical documentation, or heritage projects—ideally within a corporate, industrial, or museum context
  • Strong research and source criticism skills, as well as experience conducting interviews and handling oral history
  • The ability to work independently while navigating a complex organisation with many stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills in both written and spoken English (Danish is an advantage)
  • Familiarity with digital archiving platforms and metadata standards
  • A tactful, empathetic personality with curiosity about people, processes, and historical nuance

Why this role matters

This isn’t just about cataloguing the past. It’s about shaping how our employees, customers, and communities understand who we are. The stories you collect may inform our anniversary books, exhibitions, employer branding, and public affairs. They may influence how we tell our story when entering new markets or establishing new factories.

In other words: history will be used.

What we offer

  • A once-in-a-career opportunity to create a legacy archive from scratch in a globally respected company
  • A collaborative culture that respects expertise and gives room for independent work
  • The chance to work with a wide variety of people—from factory workers to family owners, from scientists to marketers
  • Flexible working conditions with focus on work-life balance
  • A strong sustainability and ethics profile—you’ll be proud to tell our story
  • Office in Hedehusene, with easy access by public transport and close proximity to Copenhagen.

Let’s make history together—literally.
