Ventilated façades facilitate flexibility in building envelope design, providing an efficient and aesthetic construction method that is widely used in the UK.

While effective insulation in the through-wall build-up is key for achieving the required thermal performance, sound reduction is also becoming an increasing concern. Typically used in high-rise construction, ventilated facades are subject to stringent fire protection, with a recent change to legislation banning the use of combustible materials in the external walls of relevant buildings over 18m* (as defined by Regulation 7).

ROCKWOOL offers a range of insulation solutions for ventilated facades which simultaneously address acoustic and thermal requirements, and as a non-combustible material satisfy the latest building regulations.

To help developers, specifiers and contractors navigate routes to compliance when using ventilated facades, we have brought all our relevant technical literature and a wider suite of resources into one place – welcome to the Ventilated Facades Resource Hub.

*Ban does not apply in Scotland however separate rules apply to buildings over 11m in height.

Rainscreen Acoustic Reference Guide

Ventilated rainscreen systems offer a number of significant benefits. However, determining the actual level of acoustic performance through these lightweight systems can be a challenge. This technical bulletin will look at the impact of living and working in a noisy urban environment and why there is a need for a more reliable source of acoustically tested external cladding systems.
