ROCKWOOL products can support building accreditations from independent sustainability schemes. These can be used both to inform building sustainability assessments for your project, as well as helping you to gain sustainability credits.
BREEAM
Using ROCKWOOL insulation could help you to achieve BREEAM credits in:
- Health and wellbeing: acoustic performance
- Energy: reduction in CO² emissions
- Materials: material specification and responsible sourcing
- Waste: construction site waste management
LEED
ROCKWOOL products can help you claim credits under the latest version of LEED. Please see our factsheet and manufacturer inventory for more information.

Environmental Product Declarations
Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are based on life cycle assessment, meaning that the environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product’s life are considered – ranging from raw material extraction, through to the manufacture of the product, as well as its transportation and end of life disposal. This presents a more complete picture of the environmental performance of a product.
EPDs allow the communication and aggregation of environmental data for use in Building Sustainability Assessments.
The ROCKWOOL Group has invested in EPD expertise and we have developed an EN 15804 compliant model and methodology which has been third party verified. We are rolling out EPDs across the countries in which we operate. ROCKWOOL UK was one of the first countries to go through the assessment process and we have recently undergone a reassessment which was published in March 2021. Our new EPD indicates that by 2020, the embodied carbon across our product lifecycle had fallen by over 24% relative to 2015. This fall was driven by improved process efficiency, new combustion technologies and a move to 100% renewable electricity in our operations.
Please contact technical.solutions@rockwool.co.uk to request a copy of our new EPD for your project.
Note: Because the underlying datasets and depth of information included differs from company to company, EPDs cannot yet be used to draw comparisons between products.
