The ROCKWOOL community
ROCKWOOL aims to be a good neighbour to its local communities and wider society, and to help protect the natural environment. It is a commitment that began in the 1950s, long before sustainability became fashionable, and lies at the heart of the values of ROCKWOOL.
The Copenhagen-based ROCKWOOL Foundation, founded in 1981, supports scientific, humanitarian and social goals around the world.
The ROCKWOOL Foundation research unit is one of the most trusted institutions for social and economic study in Denmark’s most respected social and economic think tanks.
The Foundation supports independent research to inform and raise the standard of public debate and to create the best possible basis for political decision making. In addition, the Foundation is a grant giving body and in 2019 it made awards of almost £13m with a special emphasis on initiatives to support children’s active participation in society through education, employment and community engagement.
The Foundation, which is not-for-profit and funded through its control of around a quarter of ROCKWOOL International’s shares, has also supported a range of overseas projects including a community based microfinance initiative in Malawi as well as peace projects in Lebanon, Burundi, Uganda and Nepal.
We work closely with our local community to keep schools, councils and residents informed about our work and to support the area through local job creation and community activities.
For example, at our Bridgend site we have established the ROCKWOOL Woodland for Learning Trust, which welcomes local schools to our onsite nature reserve for educational activities. In addition, we are proud supporters of our local business community. We regularly sponsor the annual Bridgend Business Awards, which celebrate the best local businesses as well as aspiring young entrepreneurs. Our donations programme also enables us to contribute to local causes, whilst our staff team is active in organising charitable fundraising activities.
