Because we spend much of our lives indoors, our safety and wellbeing depend on the quality of these spaces. But when homes can’t hold warmth in winter or stay cool in summer, daily life can become a choice between health and cost. These spaces are especially vulnerable to condensation and mould. Renovation offers the potential for a lasting solution: upgrading homes lowers energy bills, protects from mould and moisture risk, promotes healthier indoor environments and can improve fire resilience.

1 in 10 Europeans experience some form of energy poverty

Three out of four buildings across Europe are energy inefficient, not adequately maintaining the heat or cooling they are provided. Heating alone accounts for more than 60 percent of residential energy use, and since European power generation is still heavily reliant on imported fossil fuels, consumers are highly exposed to supply and price shocks. With roughly one in 10 Europeans already experiencing some form of energy poverty, there’s a huge need to improve energy efficiency in buildings and reduce vulnerability to supply and price shocks.
