1. Why are non-combustible materials especially important for ventilated facades?

Because of what’s called the chimney (or stack) effect. The construction of the cladding system features an air space between the insulation on the wall and the cladding. This creates a “chimney effect” that provides effective natural ventilation (hence the term ventilated facade) and offers significant advantages in removing heat and moisture, thereby ensuring greater comfort. In a building fire, if the insulation and/or cladding is made of combustible materials, this effect can spread the fire rapidly up the height of the building.

2. What key benefits come with the installation of a ventilated façade?

A ventilated façade system as a whole protects against adverse weather conditions. As the façade is generally the largest surface area of a building, it’s important to consider the relationship between the internal and external environment – and properly insulate the façade to improve heat regulation.
