Stone wool steel roof insulation provides extra thermal, acoustic and fire protection while saving energy costs – making it popular for both industrial and commercial projects.

Our flat roof products are suitable for all manner of steel deck constructions. They’re sustainable, durable and fire-resistant, making them an ideal solution for an array of properties and building types1

They also act to enhance your building’s mechanical performance, allowing the deck’s use for a range of possibilities, and offering perfect dimensional stability in the process.

Why do we need steel deck insulation?

Steel deck structures, constructed as warm roofs and often made with a small slope, are typically used in connection with larger industrial or commercial buildings. In recent years, however, construction has become more commonplace for offices and even residential buildings.

Effective steel deck insulation can create a more comfortable living and working environment for inhabitants or workers, providing an important layer of acoustic protection against nuisance noise caused by overhead aircraft or the impact of weather, and thermal protection when the climate is especially hot or cold.

In the long-term, insulation can also reduce energy costs by lowering the amount of energy needed to heat or cool the inside of the building.

The main benefits of quality steel roof insulation include:

  • Energy efficiency – up to 25 percent of energy is often lost through the roof of a poorly insulated building, leading to large energy bills.
  • Increased fire safety – stone wool provides an extra layer of protection against the spread of fire and smoke.
  • Acoustic blocking – our insulation offers an extra layer of protection from noise pollution. It also prevents noise from industry or entertainment venues escaping into nearby residential areas.

Calculator and savings

Our steel deck solutions generally offer a relatively fast payback time in terms of money, energy and CO2 footprint.

There is no set formula for how much of a given product you’ll need for your project. Instead, this will be determined by the size and shape of your building. To calculate how much you’ll require to achieve the performance you need, use the ROCKWOOL U-value and Acoustic calculators.

FAQs

FAQs

What is the best way to insulate a steel roof?

The best way to insulate a warm flat roof with a steel deck is to place the insulation above the deck. As steel is a conductor of heat, adding insulation here helps to maintain a comfortable temperature inside your building.

How well does ROCKWOOL insulation soundproof a roof space?

ROCKWOOL flat roof boards will considerably improve the acoustic performance of a lightweight steel deck roofing system. They add significant mass, making it harder for sound to penetrate, while the fibrous structure of the product acts to absorb noise and vibration. Our flat roof boards have been laboratory tested in a range of different flat roof constructions for both airborne and rain noise reduction.
