What is Smartrock?

ROCKWOOL Smartrock combines stone wool with an integrated smart vapor retarder to create a continuous insulation solution on the interior side of exterior concrete and masonry wall assemblies.

This single solution controls thermal, vapor, and airflow, reducing complexity and speeding up installation on the jobsite. Smartrock is noncombustible and provides a Class A fire rating, while the integrated membrane, utilizing INTELLO® PLUS by Pro Clima, adapts to changing humidity conditions, protecting mass walls by allowing them to dry in both directions while reducing the risk of condensation.

ROCKWOOL Smartrock is now available across the continental United States and can be used in both new construction and retrofit projects to create high performing mass wall assemblies.


We installed Smartrock in our own building because we know the blend of continuous insulation and the integrated smart vapor retarder will help create an energy efficient, durable, and comfortable workplace. Our team really enjoyed the installation process, too; Smartrock is easy to cut, doesn’t produce a lot of dust, and reduces time and stress with the pre-applied vapor retarder. Where to use Smartrock:

Looking to insulate mass walls in Climate Zone 4 or higher? Smartrock is an ideal choice for projects in colder climate zones requiring interior vapor control.

Insulating with Smartrock is also beneficial in projects that may have lot line restrictions, and in historic renovations or new builds where exterior wall access proves challenging, or when preserving original façades.

  • Ideal for energy retrofits where existing cladding must remain, such as historic renovations.
  • Effective for new construction with prefab concrete or masonry.

Thermal control

Stone wool reduces heat transfer and energy costs while creating comfortable indoor environments by minimizing thermal bridging. It maintains consistent performance regardless of temperature or humidity changes.

Smart vapor control

Smartrock’s integrated smart vapor retarder, utilizing INTELLO PLUS by Pro Clima, controls vapor movement through the assembly, allowing the substrate to dry in both directions.

Airtightness

The integrated membrane provides an airtight layer when installed with proper sealing of insulation joints, fastener and other penetrations, and can be used as part of an air barrier assembly under IECC Section C402.6.2.3.2.

Fire resilience

Smartrock is a Class A fire rated material in accordance with ASTM E84 and is classified as a noncombustible material in accordance with IBC Section 703.3.1.

Ease of installation

Smartrock installs quickly thanks to its integrated membrane and dual-density design helping to conform to wall profiles. The product is installed with standard tools, allowing crews to continue building immediately after placement.
