Milton, ON (June 9, 2025) — ROCKWOOL is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Material Impact Award by the U.S. Green Building Council California (USGBC California). The award was presented on May 22nd, during the organization’s 24th Annual California Green Building Conference, which was held in San Francisco.
This award recognizes building products and materials that offer the greatest potential to transform the market by reducing embodied carbon in buildings across California—and beyond. ROCKWOOL is being acknowledged for its innovative insulation solutions and ongoing commitment to advancing sustainable, resilient, and carbon-smart construction.
“We are honoured to receive the Material Impact Award from USGBC California,” said Alejandra Nieto, Sustainability Manager at ROCKWOOL North America. “Our stone wool insulation products are uniquely suited to support California’s energy efficiency and climate resilience goals—especially in the context of rebuilding efforts following wildfires. Coupled with our commitment to decarbonize our operations, we are proud to play a role in creating more sustainable and resilient buildings across the state.”
The California Green Building Conference is the state’s largest and longest-running green building event, bringing together leaders and advocates from across the public and private sectors. This year’s conference focused on impact-oriented programming that celebrates innovation while addressing the urgent challenges of climate change, equity, and resilience.
Nieto participated in a panel entitled “Fire Resilient by Design: Mitigation Wildfire Risk in WUI Areas”. In her remarks, she shared that ROCKWOOL’s stone wool is inherently fire resistant, helping to protect structures from ignition and fire spread. “Because stone wool insulation is noncombustible, it helps prevent ignition from embers and radiant heat, a significant concern in wildfire-prone areas.”
