This course will discuss how stone wool insulation can be used as exterior insulation to assist with moisture management.
The high vapor permeance and hydrophobic properties enables increased drying potential and limits risks of moisture related problems. Moisture modelling tools such as WUFI enables designers to make informed decisions on the products used in their assembly. This presentation will showcase results of simulations that demonstrate the impact of different materials when it comes to moisture control. In addition, in-situ case studies will be highlighted that demonstrate the performance of stone wool insulation in exterior applications.

Antoine Habellion, Manager of the Building Science department
Antoine Habellion, M.Eng, M.A.S., is the Manager of the Building Science department of ROCKWOOL North America, where the main focus of his work, apart from the team management, entails managing building enclosure research projects related to energy efficiency, enclosure performance, summer comfort, hygrothermal analysis, Building Information Modeling (BIM), durability and resilience. As a building science professional, the core group of his clients include architects, engineers, design consultants and contractors. Antoine holds a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the engineering school of Hautes Etudes d’Ingénieur in Lille, France and an advanced master’s degree in Building Science from the engineering schools of Arts et Métiers ParisTech and ESTP in Paris, France where he wrote a thesis on the Summer Comfort in Building With no Cooling Systems. His experience includes several years at BOUYGUES CONSTRUCTION where he worked as a Telecom Engineer and then a Thermal Engineer. He has now managed and completed numerous building science research projects and has assisted design teams on various construction projects across Europe and North America.
Alejandra Nieto, R&D Project Manager
Alejandra Nieto is the R&D Project Manager at ROCKWOOL North America. Her role includes conceptualizing and managing applied research and development projects related to advancing the knowledge base of full enclosure performance for industry, encompassing building science, fire and acoustics related topics. Her current projects focus on overall thermal performance and energy efficiency, in-situ monitoring and analysis of enclosure systems for increased durability and resiliency and developing solutions for passive fire and acoustical control. Alejandra holds a Master of Building Science from Ryerson University; with a background in construction science and management, and architectural technology from George Brown College. She is an active member in multiple ASHRAE technical committees; and is fluent in multiple modelling and simulation software including AutoCAD, WUFI, Heat 3, and THERM.
