Raising the bar for decarbonisation

In 2025, ROCKWOOL approved investments for 389 MEUR in decarbonisation projects, including new electric production lines, upgrades and conversions, abatement technologies, and two new power purchase agreements in Poland and Spain. At the same time, it continued to cut both absolute emissions and emissions per tonne of stone wool produced. Since setting its science-based targets in 2020, the Group has reduced absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 20 percent.

Electrification of the stone melting process remains our most powerful lever to decarbonise. At our factory in Roermond, the Netherlands, conversion of two melting lines to proprietary electric melting technology by 2027 will reduce CO2 emissions on those lines by up to 80 percent and total factory CO2 emissions by half. Additionally, abatement

technology and introduction of new low-emission binders to the stone wool production process will reduce ammonia emissions at the factory by up to 75 percent.

Getting renovation right will change lives

Renovation is one of the most powerful – and overlooked – tools we have for reducing carbon emissions, cutting energy bills, and building more resilient communities. But doing it well means going beyond quick fixes.

Two projects show what that looks like in practice. In Copenhagen, ROCKWOOL was involved in the renovation of four of the iconic Bellahøj Houses – Denmark's first high-rises – where according to preliminary data, district heating consumption fell by an estimated 38 percent in the first full year of use after renovation was completed.

In Dresden, a different challenge called for a different solution: rather than replacing a failing façade entirely, ROCKWOOL developed an approach that strengthened the existing insulation from behind, saving significant time, cost and construction waste.

"Let's see if it works"

That's the approach Kristoffer Jarl takes to every challenge – and it's one reason his colleagues and managers say he is so good at his job. As a Process Specialist at ROCKWOOL's factory in Moss, Norway, Kristoffer taught himself to code in Python, calibrated a CCTV camera with lasers, and built a fully automated melt-measuring system that is now the standard across all ROCKWOOL factories with electrical melters. His story is just one of the employee stories in this year's Spotlight – and a good example of how innovation often happens at ROCKWOOL
