About the Role
We are expanding our Digital Platforms department and seeking a talented Senior Database Administrator to join our team in Malaysia, Subang Jaya. As a key support person to the Tech Lead DBA, you will focus on day-to-day operational tasks, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our critical database environments. This role emphasizes hands-on administration of mission-critical SQL Server and MongoDB systems in a high-availability production setting, ensuring reliability, performance, and compliance for our corporate applications.
You will work closely with the Tech Lead DBA to handle ongoing operations, resolve issues efficiently, and contribute to process improvements – creating strong synergy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily database operations, including resolving issues, tickets, RFCs, and user requests in a timely manner
- Perform routine database maintenance and ensure backup compliance, including recovery testing
- Administer and manage high-availability production environments for Microsoft SQL Server and MongoDB
- Hands-on experience with large-scale database architectures, including installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades
- Participate in IT projects as a technical resource, providing expertise on database design and implementation
- Refine and automate recurring processes, track issues, and maintain comprehensive documentation
- Conduct performance tuning and optimization (PTO) using native monitoring tools and troubleshooting techniques
- Apply data modeling best practices to support integration, scalability, and performance requirements
- Independently analyze, resolve, and correct issues in real-time, providing end-to-end problem resolution
- Share knowledge and technical expertise with team members and peers
- Readiness for rotational 24/7 on-call duty to ensure system availability
What You Bring
- 9+ years of proven experience in Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure design, administration, development, and implementation
- Proven hands-on experience in MongoDB administration in production environments
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform (Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud), including integrations and on-premises to cloud migrations
- Solid knowledge of both Windows Server & Red Hat Linux environments (including administration, scripting, and integration aspects) and virtualization technologies
- Experience in automating and scripting daily routine database activities (e.g., maintenance tasks, monitoring, deployments) is highly valued
- Demonstrated experience participating in IT projects as a technical contributor
- Ability to thrive in an international organization, collaborating across multiple teams and projects
- Strong communication skills in English, with an open-minded and positive can-do attitude
- Self-motivated with a drive for technical excellence, creativity, attention to detail, and high logical intelligence
- Openness to rapidly evolving technologies and eagerness to support the R&D and Data Science team in adopting and integrating new database tools and solutions to company standard
Nice to Have
- Experience with PostgreSQL is a plus
- Knowledge of containers (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with commercial tools like RedGate SQL Tools, SQL Sentry, or similar
- Experience with backup solutions such as Avamar, Veeam, Azure Backup, or Cohesity
- Background in Big Data, BI reporting, Data Science
