IKEA Manila, owned by Swiss company Ikano Retail, is a prominent stand-alone home furnishing store situated in the expansive SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City, reclaimed land to the west of Metro Manila. Boasting the title of the largest IKEA branch globally with a vast area of 68,000m2, the store was launched in November 2021. Despite pandemic-induced setbacks, the collaborative efforts of DM Consunji Inc., Sarnatec Sdn Bhd., and Roof and Wall Saver Inc. have culminated in a flagship example of sustainable construction, marking a significant milestone in the heart of Metro Manila.

The five-story IKEA Manila complex is engineered with a robust roof and wall envelope, ensuring a delightful shopping environment. In the face of Manila’s intense humidity and heat, the store’s vast size could have led to significant cooling expenses. Fortunately, IKEA’s longstanding partnership with ROCKWOOL for insulation solutions worldwide continues with the Manila branch. Opting for the ThermalRock S80 stone wool insulation, IKEA Manila achieves substantial energy efficiency in cooling. The building’s distinctive blue metal exterior is not only aesthetically pleasing but also fortified with ThermalRock S80 slabs, providing optimal thermal and acoustic insulation while maintaining fire safety.

With its doors now open, IKEA Manila is not just a shopping destination but a model for future eco-friendly developments, showcasing the seamless integration of form, function, and sustainability.
