AFB is non-combustible, can withstand temperatures up to 2,150 oF and will not develop toxic smoke or promote flame spread, even when directly exposed to fire. AFB has the lowest possible flame spread / smoke development index of 0 / 0 when tested in accordance with ASTM E84.
AFB is a key component of several UL and Intertek listed fire partitions and is available in a number of different thicknesses to meet the needs of your project for both new construction and renovation. Take a look through the AFB product guide which contains a collection of fire rated wall assemblies, providing 1 hr, 1 ½ hr and 2 hr rated wall assemblies using ROCKWOOL AFB.
AFB is specifically designed to reduce sound transmission and provides exceptional acoustic comfort when installed in a wall assembly. Insulation is a key first step in a complete acoustic solution that may also include components such as additional gypsum boards and resilient channels. The ROCKWOOL Technical Services team is available to assist you in meeting your acoustic design goals.

The durability of AFB provides the optimal balance of rigidity and flexibility helping to make installations easy, fast, and efficient. The flexibility of the batt allows for simple insertion into the stud cavity, while the added rigidity and recovery of the product provides a complete fit into the assembly, minimizing gaps and compression to provide optimal and long term performance of the wall assembly.
Installers of ROCKWOOL AFB have found that the higher density, ease of cutting and firm fit between studs of stone wool insulation provides a better installation experience, and a noticeable improvement in both the appearance of the insulation in the wall cavity, and the overall performance of the wall assembly, when comparing to other insulation batt products in the same application.1
