Why do we need floating floor insulation?

High-rise developments often use floating floors to block unwanted noise from travelling through the floor and reaching occupants below.

Floating floor insulation boards disconnect the surface that is being walked on, from the load bearing floor. This helps to block excess sound travelling through and helps tenants enjoy better sleep, and improved quality of life – thanks to the reduced noise.1

Insulation boards can also be placed underneath ground floor spaces, helping to lessen draughts and block heat which may escape the property – reducing heat loss.

The project

University Hospital Olomouc’s new intensive care centre became the first healthcare unit in the Czech Republic to be named a zero-energy consumption development.

The Pavilion II Clinic, a five-storey building, was built in 2018.

The solution

The chief architect chose ROCKWOOL solutions for pipes, walls and flooring. They cited the thermal performance of stone wool in the insulation as a way to hit their zero-energy level target.

ROCKWOOL floor insulation boards were part of the package. Resistant to the growth of mould, rot and harmful bacteria, these boards were a natural choice for a hospital setting where hygiene is crucial.
