Integrity through insulation
Steel frame in construction provides a cost-effective method of building high and building fast, with the added advantage of steel being a non-combustible material. But that’s not to say that in the event of a fire, steel doesn’t require protection. With fire can come high levels of heat, and it is exposure to such extremely hot temperatures which can compromise the structural integrity of the steel – and lead the building to collapse. That’s why fire protection is essential, to ensure there is sufficient time for a safe passage of exit for all building occupants. The Building Regulations set out functional and legal requirements for structural fire protection, with Part B specifying what is deemed a reasonable period according to building height and occupancy. ROCKWOOL provides access to a range of A1 non-combustible products specifically designed for structural protection applications and Part B compliance.
