Rockwool Group at Copenhagen climate congress

Today, the University of Copenhagen’s congress on climate changes is kicked off in Copenhagen. The Rockwool Group is official partner to the congress preparing input for the UN climate summit in Copenhagen, December 2009.

Colourful thermographic images showing insufficient insulation are a key element in a new Danish Rockwool campaign to promote insulation as a climate solution. Under the heading 'Stop Local Warming' the campaign will run until the UN climate summit in Copenhagen.

The Rockwool Group will run an exhibition in the conference area featuring a demonstration of how a heat sensitive camera by means of thermography can disclose where heat escapes. Used on a poorly insulated building, this technology reveals the loss of energy worth thousands of dollars, euros or pounds in its lifetime.

The climate challenge

In December, the world’s leaders meet in Copenhagen to establish an ambitious global climate agreement – a successor to the Kyoto Protocol – for the period from 2012 onwards. This is a crucial political challenge. The decision that the politicians need to make will influence living conditions on this planet for many generations.

At the congress leading international scientists will gather to focus on climate change – global risks, challenges and decisions. The main aim is provide the decision-makers with crucial, up-to-date knowledge about climate change.

“It is our hope that the conclusions of the scientists will help pave the way for wise and necessary political decisions,” says Eelco van Heel, CEO and President of Rockwool International A/S, who joins the congress as part of the Rockwool delegation.

Top climate researchers

The university announces, that the Climate Congress is opened on 10 March by Danish Minister of Climate and Energy Connie Hedegaard, and John Ashton, climate advisor to the British Government. HRH the Danish Crown Prince Frederik will attend the first day of the conference.

The Congress welcomes several leading climate researchers, among others, Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and Lord Nicholas Stern, author of the Stern-report, which in 2006 placed the climate issue high on the international political agenda.

The University of Copenhagen is organising the scientific congress 10-12 March in cooperation with the partners in the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU). IARU is an alliance of ten of the world's leading research universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Yale and Berkeley.
