Golden potential in hot industry neglected
Hot industrial processes offer a huge potential for profitable energy savings and many gigatonnes of CO2 mitigation. But despite operating temperatures of often 200 – 600oC, hot pipes, boilers and tanks in power plants and process industries in many countries are insulated much less than modern buildings – if at all. Hardly any specific energy efficiency requirements for industry have been prescribed and inertia in redesigning industrial processes to become energy and CO2 efficient prevails.
