Environment 2008 report released

Pick the lowest hanging fruit

Would you like to see climate change abatement, sustainable growth and security of energy supply? Better insulation is the most profitable CO2 saving, pinpoints McKinsey/Vattenfall. It’s the lowest hanging fruit. Millions of tonnes of CO2 and fossil fuel can be saved.

Buildings too wasteful

Our buildings consume some 40% of the energy used in the EU and the US. Heating and cooling are key energy consumers. But most of this energy is being wasted due to inadequate insulation. Using well-proven energy efficiency techniques, we can cut the use of heating energy in a building by up to 90%.

Fruitful actions

This report shows ways to save vast amounts of energy, CO2 and money in buildings. But as building owners - or political decision-makers - we need to become more active and harvest the lowest hanging fruit. Before climate change and fossil fuel prices get beyond control.
