Meet us at COP15

How can we create green jobs while saving energy and CO2? Delegates at the UN climate summit COP15 in Copenhagen seeking answers to this question can visit the Climate Consortium’s side event on 9 December from 15:00-16:30 in the Centre Hall of the Bella Center.

Rockwool Chief Executive Officer Eelco Van Heel will speak about energy efficiency in buildings, seconded by Energy Policy Specialist Jens Laustsen from the International Energy Agency (IEA) and Global Climate Initiative Leader Kim Carstensen from WWF International. We also offer other events during COP15 including visits to a Danish family living in a low energy house.

Recast of Directive in place

On 17 November 2009, a political agreement was reached on the recast of the EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. The new Directive means a significant strengthening of energy efficiency requirements in buildings.

The International Energy Agency calls for action on energy efficiency in buildings

More than half of the CO2 reductions called for by the UN climate panel can be obtained through better energy efficiency, according to the International Energy Agency. Buildings have a key role to play. The agency calls for action in a new report.

China’s challenge: huge potential for energy savings

Three out of ten new buildings in China do not live up to the Chinese government’s compulsory standards for energy efficiency. Of the existing buildings, an estimated 95% do not comply with the energy efficiency standards. Now China is undergoing a fundamental change with increased focus on energy efficiency and green tech buildings.

See the map of oil superpowers

In the Climate & Environment 2009 report, the Rockwool Group has mapped world oil reserves country by country. The map shows that only a small group of countries can be aptly described as oil superpowers. Based on this, decision-makers should be much more aware of energy efficiency in order to create a higher degree of energy security.

Training crucial for energy efficient refurbishment

The European Commission recommends education and training of the building sector workforce as a prime means to improve the energy efficiency of existing buildings. Experts agree, so a technical college is about to take the first step in this direction. The message is clear: it is necessary to take action today to be prepared for future challenges.
