The United Kingdom’s fight against fuel poverty
Special commitment schemes save 154 million tonnes of CO2 in the British household sector and move a large number of Britons out of fuel poverty
Since 2002, the UK government has made strong efforts to improve the energy efficiency of its existing building stocks. Through the second phase of the Energy Efficiency Commitment programme (EEC), the government expects to save 1.8 million tonnes CO2 per year in the household sector by 2010. The first phase, which ran from 2002-2005, is expected to save 1.1 million tonnes of CO2 per year by 2010.

Of all measures installed in the British EEC programme, insulation counts for almost 80 %.
