Who can obtain the loans?

The programme provides loans of up to 50,000 euro per housing unit for everyone who wants to reduce the energy consumption of an old building, e.g.:

  • Private individuals
  • Housing companies
  • Housing cooperatives
  • Operators of residential establishments and
  • Municipalities

Germans receive a long-term loan with redemption-free grace years at a clearly reduced interest rate which is fixed for the first ten years.

People who do not need a loan can be given an investment grant instead. For energy-saving renovation of new properties, owners receive a grant of 10 % of the investment costs (up to a maximum of 5,000 euro per housing unit). If the measures carried out lead to the level of new buildings, owners are given a grant of 17.5 % of the investment costs (up to a maximum of 8,750 euro per housing unit).

Repayment bonus

If an old building meets the new building standards after the rehabilitation, 5 % of the loan is amortised. If a level more than 30% below the new building standard is reached, the bonus increases to 12.5 %.
