Egedal in the future

In April 2008, the City Council in Egedal passed a new Plan and Agenda 21 strategy that will make Egedal the most ambitious municipality in Denmark within energy efficient buildings. Egedal’s strategy is to pass on the low energy concept from Stenløse South and broaden the requirements for low energy houses and buildings.

Thus, the new Plan and Agenda 21 strategy will make sure that in 2009, 5 % of all citizens in Egedal will live in a low energy or very low energy buildings. This will result in energy saving of approximately 4.5 million kWh or the equivalent of 500,000 litres of oil per year.

Public buildings

The new Plan and Agenda 21 strategy in Egedal also takes energy renovation of public buildings to a higher level. 3 million euro has been allocated to energy management and savings in the municipality’s existing public building stock.

Through the Danish energy performance certification scheme, the municipality will draw up guidelines as to how the allocated amount will be invested in the best possible way.
The municipality has also agreed to publish its energy use on the website of the Danish Electricity Saving Trust as a way to commit itself to become even more energy efficient.
