Heating installation and electricity

The optimum choice of a building’s heating system will depend on the energy sources available and the climate zone that a building is located in.

Because of the limited need for energy in very low energy buildings, there may not be a need for a traditional heating system with radiators.
Heating installation and electricity

Well insulated houses with ventilation systems ensure an excellent indoor climate.

In central European countries and many other regions, it is often possible to heat a building only via the ventilation system by installing a system with heat recovery which uses the heat in the exhaust air to heat up the fresh air. According to the Passive House Institute this requires that the peak heating load can be brought down to less than 10 W/m2 (depending on climate). In this situation, the ventilation can be used for space heating and a separate heating system is no longer required.

In addition, geothermal and solar heating for hot water and heating are good options to obtain a very low level of CO2 emissions from the building.
