Air tightness

Infiltration occurs when outside air enters a house uncontrollably through cracks and openings. Proper air tightening can significantly reduce heating and cooling costs and create a healthier indoor environment.

Ventilation through cracks and openings is a bad strategy since it cannot be controlled and may cause condensation of moisture in the constructions, resulting in a bad indoor climate.
The recommended strategy in both new and old buildings is to reduce air leakage as much as possible and to provide controlled ventilation as needed.

Full air sealing in existing buildings is often not possible due to the fact that many of the leaks are integrated into the constructions. But several types of leakages can be fixed even in existing buildings by using products for tightening.
